Sean Anthony Manaea (born August 2, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played in MLB for the Oakland Athletics and played college baseball at Indiana State University . San Francisco Giants
Manaea was traded to San Francisco Giants in December 2017 with right-handed pitcher Bubba Derby and outfielder Mel Rojas Jr. for outfielder Andrew McCutchen and cash considerations. This trade reunited him with his former pitching coach Dave Righetti, who had been named Giants’ pitching coach earlier that month. Oakland Athletics
Manaea was drafted by Oakland in the first round of 2013 Major League Baseball draft, one pick after fellow Indiana State pitcher Andrew Heaney. The Athletics had acquired that selection as compensation for losing Josh Willingham to free agency. He signed with Oakland on June 18, receiving a $2 million signing bonus. As part of his deal, he received a $10,000 monthly salary while in minor league baseball and would get a yearly raise to $300,000 if he made it to the majors.
