She was an avid skier and enjoyed hiking and camping with her family. In 2005, she met Lauren Conrad while both were attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The two quickly became friends, and when Lauren got a job working for Teen Vogue, she convinced Heidi to move to Los Angeles with her.

How did you get your start in television?
I was actually discovered by a producer while I was working at a lingerie store in Los Angeles. He thought I had the right look for reality television and suggested I audition for a show he was working on. The rest, as they say, is history! I started filming my first show, The Hills, just a few months later. My time on that set made me realize that I’m more of an entertainer than anything else.
