I was born in America, but I’ve always had a strong connection to Britain. My dad is British and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I’m also a professional kickboxer. I started kickboxing when I was 17 and turned pro when I was 20. I retired from kickboxing last year, but I’m still involved in the sport as a coach and referee. The Story Behind My Name
I was named after my grandfather, Emory Andrew Tate II. He was a very successful businessman, and my parents wanted me to have his name in hopes that I would follow in his footsteps. However, I took a different path altogether. I became a professional kickboxer and then later, a social media influencer. Though my career choices may be different than what my parents envisioned for me, I’m still making them proud.
I started my career as a musician
I always loved music, but I never thought of it as a career. It was something I did for fun, to relax, and to express myself. But when I was 19, I met a guy who changed my life. He introduced me to the world of professional music and showed me that it could be a viable career option. I spent the next year honing my skills and networking until I found an agent that would work with me. We landed a couple of small gigs in bars before we finally landed our first big gig playing at some local festival. After that, there were more opportunities coming in than we knew what to do with. It was only then that I realized how much potential this had in terms of making money–and so I took on this new endeavor full-time.
My lifelong love of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)
MMA has always been a huge part of my life. I started training when I was just a kid and fell in love with the sport immediately. I competed professionally for a few years and had some success, but ultimately decided to retire from fighting and focus on my other passion: social media. I studied it at college, got experience running my own business as an influencer management company, and eventually made the decision to go out on my own. I do all sorts of marketing consulting as well as influencer marketing campaigns for brands that want a unique take on their campaigns. And if you’re wondering about what happened to Mr. T., he’s still kicking around here and there; he’s even helped me out with some business advice now and then!

How did you get into social media?
I actually started out as a professional kickboxer. I was born in America but moved to England when I was young, and that’s where I began my career in kickboxing. After a few years, I decided to retire from competitive kickboxing and focus on my other passion: social media. I started out by making videos on YouTube, and eventually built up a following on other platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. It wasn’t until about four months ago that I finally got sponsored for the first time. It feels really good to be able to live off of social media now; before, it was just something I did for fun.
