Christopher Grantley Sommers was born in Ireland in 1979. He was raised in a small town outside of Dublin. When he was eighteen, he moved to Australia to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. After graduation, he worked steadily as an actor in theatre, film, and television. In 2010, he made the move to Los Angeles to further his career. He has been working on How I Met Your Mother as Barney Stinson’s brother James.

Some of his most notable roles include that of King Arthur in the 1995 film First Knight and Dr. Simon Westinghouse in the Australian soap opera Home and Away.
