Draupadi Murmu was born in a small village in Odisha, India. She comes from a humble background and her parents were farmers. Despite the odds, she was able to get an education and went on to become a teacher. After several years of teaching, she decided to enter politics and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
