Michael John Douglas was born in 1951, in Santa Ana, California. His mother left when he was just a toddler and died six years later, leaving him without any memory of her. He took her last name and moved to New York as a teenager to live with his father who worked as an actor on television. When Michael’s classmates learned that his father was famous, they weren’t impressed at all because back then most TV stars were still considered pretty low status actors.
He was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and was raised there by his mother, Leona Elizabeth (née Horvath), an office manager, and father James Donald Keaton, who owned a civil engineering consulting firm. He is of Irish descent and was raised Roman Catholic.
With each performance, Keaton has become more convincing as a man of action and emotional depth, so much so that he was considered for roles in The Bourne Identity and Terminator Salvation. To date, however, his work as both an action star and a dramatic actor (in movies such as Spotlight) has been dwarfed by his comic-book-hero turn in Tim Burton’s first two Batman films.
