In a 2014 interview, Turner stated that he is from Alamo Heights, Texas (outside of San Antonio), but was born in Portland, Oregon. His father played basketball at Portland State University. The Turners later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they lived until Turner started sixth grade (where they then moved to Bedford, Texas) before returning to their hometown of Portland when he was in eighth grade.
