Junior began boxing at nine years old in his hometown of Talibon in Bohol under Guillermo Salas (who was also responsible for training Lito Adriano to an Olympic gold medal). In 2001 he won silver medals at both cadet and junior levels at featherweight at National Junior Olympics, as well as a bronze medal at flyweight in another national event. In 2002 he made it to semifinals of that year’s World Junior Championships as a bantamweight.

Professional Career (Super Bantamweight)

Donaire rose to prominence by capturing gold medals at international tournaments in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as a bantamweight.
