Gianluca Scamacca is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Sassuolo and the Italy national team. He started his career at Fermana in 2006, before moving to Juve Stabia in 2008 and Parma in 2010. In 2015, he moved to Sassuolo on loan, before signing permanently with them in 2016. At international level, he made his senior debut for Italy in 2012 at UEFA Euro 2012, also competing at UEFA Euro 2016.

From 1989 until 1992, Gianluca played in Serie C1 with various teams including Pro Sesto, Cittadella and Robur Siena. He then moved to Italian Serie B club Brescia for a single season, which is where he made his breakthrough into professional football, before going back to Serie C1 with Tritium in 1994–95.

His parents are Giuseppe and Maria Elisabetta Scamacca; his father is a lawyer and former player for Cagliari, while his mother works as a doctor at Reggio Hospital. He has one older brother named Marco, who plays football for local amateur team Pro Recco.
Club career
Prior to joining Sassuolo, Scamacca played for several Italian clubs throughout his career, including Padova, Bologna and Genoa in Serie B. In 2014–15 he was Sassuolo’s top scorer with 20 goals in all competitions as they won promotion to Serie A; on 3 September 2015 he scored a hat-trick in their 4–1 win over AC Milan at San Siro.
International career
He is also a youth international, having represented Italy at under-19, under-20, and under-21 level. He made his senior international debut in 2015 after previously featuring for Italy at levels up to under-21.
Honours
In 2007, Scamacca was selected by Serie A club Sampdoria to join their youth set-up. In 2012, he started a scholarship contract with them in order to complete his graduation with high marks as an economics major before finally signing his first professional contract on 25 May 2012.
