After serving as guitarist for both Gnarls Barkley and Beck, he was recruited by Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis to replace John Frusciante in 2009. The move proved to be quite successful: that year, he featured on both I’m with You and The Getaway, two of RHCP’s most commercially successful albums. He has continued to tour with them ever since. His style is distinguished by his use of clean tones and incorporation of Jazz influence into modern rock music.
He was born in Los Angeles, California to Charles and Janet Klinghoffer. His mother was of Irish, English, French and German ancestry and his father has Austrian Jewish ancestry. He has an older brother named John who works as a computer consultant. His father changed his surname from Klinghofer to Klinghoffer after he served in Vietnam because he wanted to disassociate himself from his biological family due to some familial issues.
