How she became an Actress
Torres’ first appearance in a film was as an extra in Juan Dalmau’s 1989 comedy El Fantasma de la Ópera (The Phantom of the Opera). She also appeared as an extra in Miss Boricua, a 1991 musical film produced by Rafael Pérez-Botija which starred Raúl Juliá and included performances by Ednita Nazario, Míriam Colón and Tommy Muñiz.

When she was 17, a photographer saw her walking in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico and asked her to enter a local beauty pageant. That event brought her to represent Toa Alta in Miss Puerto Rico that year; she later competed at Miss Universe 1993, where she became both 1st runner-up (to Australia’s Nicole Fuhrmann) and Miss Congeniality.
