Olivia Colman Wins Her First Emmy For Best Actress

Olivia Colman has been nominated for many awards in her career—but she’s never won a major award until now. After several nominations for The Crown over its first two seasons, including consideration for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in both seasons, she finally won a well-deserved Emmy Award last night. She beat out Claire Foy from The Crown as well as Mary J.

She beat Elisabeth Moss and Sandra Oh

The category that Olivia Colman won for her performance in BBC’s The Crown is best lead actress in a drama series. This award is probably one of the most prestigious awards an actor can receive as it separates them from all other actors in their specific field. This past Sunday, September 17th 2017, Olivia Colman received one of these coveted awards at The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This makes her first (and only) Emmy win so far

Olivia Colman has made a name for herself in Britain for her comedic roles on such programs as Twenty Twelve, Rev., and Chewing Gum. But now that she’s getting more attention across the pond thanks to starring in Fleabag and The Night Manager, it looks like she’s finally taking her turn in Hollywood. She won an Emmy last night (September 18) for best lead actress in a limited series or movie.

Congratulations On Your Win

Actress Olivia Colman has taken home an Oscar in Los Angeles for her performance in The Favourite. She plays Queen Anne in the film, which also stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. Other nominees for Best Actress were Glenn Close for The Wife and Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born.

Is there another award you should win?

Looking back on last night’s Academy Awards, I can’t help but think how close all of us were to an even bigger upset. Most are probably aware of that infamous Billy Crystal gaffe from a few years ago in which he incorrectly announced that there was no winner for Best Actress.

You Deserve This Win

Not only does Olivia have a long and varied career that has landed her on both sides of Hollywood (British TV and American film), but she’s also been taking risks with her roles. She’s started to be known for not playing it safe—and she deserves more credit for that than most.

Her next role will be in Kursk

Kursk is a British-American drama film directed by Thomas Vinterberg and written by Robert Rodat. It is based on an actual event, in which an explosion occurred aboard a Russian submarine in 2000. The incident resulted in 118 deaths; however, for dramatic purposes some characters have been invented and their actions and motivations have been fictionalized. Furthermore, Kursk (the submarine) has no connection to Kursk (the city), which was renamed from Voronezh in 1953.

Are you going to accept another award soon?

That’s right. Olivia has just won an Emmy Award for her role in The Night Manager and another one of her projects could well lead to another nomination: A film version of Hilary Mantel’s historical fiction novel Wolf Hall. In it she plays Anne Boleyn.
