Alex de Minaur is an Australian professional tennis player. He achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 15 on 28 June 2021 and a doubles ranking of No. 58 on 12 October 2020. He is currently ranked in 28th place by the Association of Tennis Professionals, making him the best-ranked Australian male singles player after Lleyton Hewitt’s retirement in 2023 and the second best-ranked under 21 year old (after Karen Khachanov). Early life

Alex was born in Sydney to parents of Uruguayan heritage who emigrated from Montevideo, Uruguay in 1979.[3] His older brother Sebastián is also a tennis player, currently ranked 143rd in singles and with no doubles ranking. Alex’s younger sister Sofia also plays tennis. She recently won her first ITF title on 29 May 2019 at Newcastle, Australia, when she was 17 years old.[5] His cousin, Carolina Arias, also plays tennis professionally. Professional Career

Before beginning his career as a tennis player, Alex was studying law at university in Sydney. At just fifteen years old, Alex was drafted into a prodigy-esque program that allowed him to compete in some of Australia’s finest amateur tournaments. After three years competing professionally, he decided to return to school and finish his degree in 2017. Once he turned eighteen, however, Alex announced that he would be ending his schooling so that he could pursue tennis full-time as a profession.

Personal Life

De Minaur was born in Sydney, New South Wales to parents Bernard and Suzy (née Alker). He attended St Ives North Public School and then earned a scholarship to attend Trinity Grammar School where he completed his Higher School Certificate. While attending school, De Minaur participated in a variety of sports including rugby union, basketball and cricket.

Awards And Achievements

De Minaur has won six singles titles, two ATP World Tour 250 series titles and two ITF Futures tournaments. At 18 years old, he achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 15 on 28 June 2021 in men’s singles and No. 58 in doubles on 12 October 2020.
