Michael Jerome Mike Singletary (born July 18, 1958) is an American football coach and former player. He played as a middle linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons, primarily with the Chicago Bears. Playing career
Singletary started playing football in college at California Polytechnic State University, where he was an All-American. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears as their first round pick in 1981, and played with them for eleven seasons.
Coaching career
A third-round draft pick by San Francisco in 1981, Michael Anthony Singletary spent 13 seasons as an NFL linebacker with the San Francisco 49ers. He was selected to four Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro in 1987. As one of only two players in NFL history to win both Super Bowl and NFL MVP awards, he has been selected for enshrinement into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame.

Mike Singletary was born on September 21, 1958, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. At birth, he weighed 12 pounds and was 21 inches long. His family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was young. When he was 5 years old his father died of a heart attack at home; his mother died of breast cancer five years later.
